Beach-by-Beach Safety

Safest

Sta. Fe Eastern Coast

Long east-facing coastline, shallow and gradually sloping, protected from the open sea. Best for families with children and less confident swimmers.

Safe

Paradise Beach & Sugar Beach

Shallow waters, gradual slope, generally calm. Check tide timing — at very low tide, the water can be too shallow for swimming in some spots.

Caution

Western Coastline (Madridejos, Bantayan)

More exposed to open sea. Rougher water during habagat (Jun-Sep). Check conditions before swimming, especially in the wet season.

Caution

Virgin Island & Hilantagaan

Swimming around the islands is generally safe in calm weather but deeper water, currents between islands, and boat traffic. Snorkel with a guide.

Marine Hazards

Jellyfish

More common in wet season (Jun-Nov). If stung, rinse with seawater (not fresh water), remove tentacles carefully, apply vinegar if available.

Sea Urchins

Common on rocky areas and in some seagrass beds. Wear reef shoes when walking in shallow rocky water. If stung, carefully remove spines.

Fire Coral

Can cause painful burning rash on contact. Avoid touching any coral. Rinse affected area with seawater and seek medical attention if severe.

Rip Currents

Rare at Bantayan's main beaches but possible at exposed western coast in heavy weather. If caught, don't fight it — swim parallel to shore until free.

Seasonal Overview

December – May · Dry Season

Calm sea, clear visibility, best swimming conditions. Peak months for beach holidays.

June – September · Habagat (Southwest Monsoon)

Rain, rougher sea especially on western coast. Eastern beaches more sheltered. Check conditions daily.

August – November · Typhoon Season

Peak risk months. Monitor PAGASA advisories. Avoid swimming during storm warnings. Ferry services may be suspended.

October – November · Transitional

Weather improving, amihan returning. Variable conditions — lovely some days, still stormy others.
